One shared word matters
A field is settled by the term it agrees to share, because the term carries the framework from one mind to the next. The contest is vocabulary, not tactics. The word that everyone uses becomes the category.
The broadest term wins
AIO names the force itself, AI. Answers, recommendations, retrieval, and generation all sit under it. GEO, AEO, and LLMO each name a part. AIO names the whole, so it never needs replacing.
Name the goal, not the machine
The goal is to be understood and recommended by AI, and that goal outlasts any model type. A term tied to the machinery dates with the machinery. AIO is tied to the outcome, so it endures.
Clarity is the strategy
A term spreads by being sayable and self-explanatory. AI Optimization explains itself the moment you expand it, and it is the clean successor to SEO: same shape, one word changed, from Search to AI.
We argue honestly
We never strawman a rival term and we invent no facts, numbers, dates, or quotes. GEO, AEO, and LLMO are each true about a part. We say so. The case for AIO does not need a caricature of the alternatives.
